PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor)

PHP is an open-source, server-side HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic webpages. A dynamic webpage is a page that interacts with the user, so that each user visiting the page sees customized information. PHP is freely available and used primarily on Linux (UNIX) web servers, and as an alternative to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) technology. As with ASP, the PHP script is embedded within a webpage along with its HTML. Before the page resolves, the web server calls PHP to interpret and perform the operations called for in the PHP script. An HTML page with PHP script is typically given a file name suffix of ".php," ".php4," or ".phtml." 

Linux 

Developed by Linus Torvalds at the University of Helsinki (Finland), is a UNIX-like operating system. It provides computer users a free or very low-cost operating system comparable to traditional and usually more expensive UNIX systems. 

UNIX 

An operating system invented in 1969 at AT&T Bell Laboratories which was made available to researchers and students in 1973. It was used to develop the Internet's communication software protocols. The turning point in UNIX's history came when it was re-implemented almost entirely in C during 1972--1974, making it the first source-portable operating system. UNIX subsequently underwent vast changes and expansions at the hands of many different people, resulting in a very flexible and developer-friendly environment. By 1991, UNIX had become the most widely used multi-user general-purpose operating system in the world. 

MySQL 

An open-source relational database management system (RDBMS) that uses Structured Query Language (SQL), the most popular language for adding, accessing, and processing data in a database. Because it is open source, anyone can download MySQL and tailor it to their needs in accordance with the general public license. MySQL is noted mainly for its speed, reliability and flexibility. Most agree it works best when managing content and not executing transactions. 

JavaScript 

A scripting language that interacts with HTML source code, allowing for interactive websites. JavaScript is used for things such as "rollover buttons" (graphics that change color when you run your mouse over them), rotating banners, MIDI jukeboxes, pop-up windows, etc. 

HTML (HyperText Markup Language) 

The language used to build hypertext documents on the WWW. They are nothing more than plain ASCII-text documents interpreted (or rendered) by a web browser to display formatted text and fonts, color, graphic images, and links.
